The Gambia

Dawda Cham was born in Jarra Soma, Lower River Region on the 25th April, 1997. He did his primary and basic education at Soma Lower Basic School and Soma Upper Basic School respectively within the periods of 2004 and 2013. He was awarded the overall best student at Soma UBS and had bagged the best aggregate in the entire region in 2013 GABECE. He served as head boy in the same school in 2012/2013 academic year. In 2013, Dawda got enrolled in Nusrat Senior Secondary School where he did pure science. At Nusrat, he was very influential and had joined and served several clubs such as the Young Farmers Association, Nusrat Islamic and Cultural Association, ICT Club, he was a presenter for Science and Maths Club and the Chairperson for the Book Club during his time. He is final year Biology Major at the University of The Gambia. However, studying Biology at the UTG will not limit Dawda from pursing his dream career. Dawda is aspiring to becoming a Medical Doctor one day. He believes that his country’s health sector needs more doctors and nurses to attain world standard. He is concerned with the fact that most people in remote areas in The Gambia don’t easily have access to health care services. Dawda is currently the President of the Ex-students' Association of Soma Upper & Senior Secondary School, Head of Spartans at the Balance Crew, National Project Coordinator of HELP-Gambia, Secretary General of Rise of The Young Gambia, Secretary General of the University of The Gambia Science Students' Association, Deputy Country Coordinator of The Orphan Empowerment Society - Gambia Chapter, member of the National Coordinating Team of Let's Do It Gambia and an active member of Balal Foundation, LRR. Dawda is also a poet and an environmental advocate who believes that the environment deserves maximum protection in order to mitigating climate change. He won a national online poetry challenge on COVID-19 sensitisation funded by EU in The Gambia and The Gambia Youth Empowerment Project.
